Biography

Agnes de Kyme has been detached as Hamo's wife. While his wife's first name was Agnes, her surname is unknown.

Listed in History of the manor and parish of Weston-Under-Lizard[1].

Listed in Burke's Weston of Wolverton pedigree[2].

Sir Hamo de Weston-under-Lyzard, d. c1214, [3] was the great-grandson of Reginald de Baileul of Baileul-en Gouffern, near Argentan in Normandy. He was Lord of Weston, Berton, Broton, and Newton in Staffordshire, and diverse manors in other counties held of the King in capite and under Roger de Montgomery, his wife's uncle c.1086. [4]

Arms: Or an eagle displayed regardant sa. They were granted to Hamo de Weston of Weston and Blemenhal in the year 1210.

"Hamo de Weston was lord of both Weston and Newton. He was the first who assumed the local name, and he sometimes occurs also as Hamo de Newton, which seems to imply that he had also a capital mansion there. His Christian name, which is the same with Hamelin, taken in conjunction with his tenure of the whole manor of Weston, is suggestive of a descent from, or connection with, Hamelin, or Amerland, the Domesday tenant of Weston. Hamo was amerced for a forest trespass in 1175-6, and again in 1187-8. He occurs as a knight in 1199, when he was the first of four knights summoned to elect a jury at Lichfield, as he was again at Lincoln for a Stafford assize in 1201. He served on the jury at several Lichfield assizes at Michelmas 1203, as also in January 1207. He was the first of four knights summoned, with Mansel de Pateshull, Nicholas de Bureston, and Pagan de Carles, to nominate a jury for an assize to be taken in Easter term, 18 John II (1208-9). At the forest Assizes of March 1209, Haino de Weston and John Bagot (lord of Blymhill) were indicted for receiving marksmen (Bersatores) and hounds at Weston and Blymhill; but the result of this indictment does not appear. Hamo de Weston was again one of the knights summoned to elect a jury in 14 John, 1212. He was dead in October 1214, when John de Weston was impleaded by Agnes, late wife of Hamo de Weston, in a suit concerning dower."
