John's father, John Wheatley, immigrated in 1641. John was born in Maryland and resided in Newtown Hundred, St. Mary's County, Maryland.^[1] He was married to Elizabeth, surname unknown.^[2]

Will

From the Will of John Wheatley II dated 4/25/1717, probated 8/8/1717 in St Mary's County, Maryland.^[3]

Item: I give unto my son James five hundred pounds of Tobacco to be paid him after my decease as soon as convenience will permitt.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my son John one tract of land called Wheatley's Meadows containing one hundred and ten acres and one tract of land called Hiccory. Plains containing fifty acres...

Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph one tract of land called Nintoquight containing one hundred and fourteen acres....

Item: I give unto my loving wife Elizabeth my now dwelling plantation (identified by rent rolls of 1707-17 as Wheatley's Content^[4] with the tract of land thereunto for and during her natural life and after her decease I do give and bequeath the said tract of land unto my two sons Thomas and Francis to be equally divided between them...

Item: I give unto my loving wife one halfe of my movable goods and Chattels after payment of my debts, the other half to be equally divided amongst my five daughters, that is to say Winfrede, Ann, Elizabeth, Susannah, and Mary, to be paid them at the age of sixteen or day of marriage.

Item: My will is that my two sons Thomas and Francis be of age to work for themselves at the age of eighteen years, in case my wife should marry again after my decease, but if she remains a widow then my will is that they remaine with her and under her tuition till the age of one and twenty.^[5]
