Jacob B Whitehurst was the second son of John Whitehurst and Comfort Gum Whitehurst. [1] He lived from 1795 to 1895. He was married to Ruhama Norris.
Military Information: Jacob Whitehurst was a Veteran of the War of 1812. For his service he received a 40-acre tract of land in Jasper Co, Illinois. It was NE 1/4 of the NE 1/4 Section 9 Township 8N, Range 14. He filed his claim in Palestine, IL, Nov 10, 1843. The land was given to his daughter Elizabeth and her husband John Hiles May 7, 1845. This is the same land that was later owned by Squire Leamon, then by Doyle Hickox.
Jacob Whitehurst accompanied his uncle Jehu Gum to Kentucky in 1804, and was with him in Hardin County, KY. Jehu died in November 1806. At the sale of Jehu Gum's personal possessions in December, 1806, Jacob Whitehurst bought Jehu's big coat, vest, and hat. (Hardin County, Kentucky, Estate Records "Jehu Gum") When Sheppard Gum, administrator of Jehu's estate, came back to Virginia in 1807, to settle the land transaction there, Jacob Whitehurst probably returned to Virginia with him.
