Biography

The name of Peter Kemper's wife is given as Mary Whitesides in old Kemper genealogy.

An excerpt from Todd Whitesides' extended summary of the family, posted at genealogy.com on Oct. 15, 2000, is copied below: [1] William Whitesides "of Prince William County" purchased half of a 400 acre tract on Negro Run in Culpeper Co, VA that had been patended in 1752 to Tilman Weaver (1701-1760) of Germantown, Fauquier Co, VA. William removed there with his family, and in various deeds "William Whitesides house" is used as a landmark as late as 1783; after that the tract is described as belonging to John Whitesides.... At this time the other half of this 400 acre tract belonged to Peter Kemper, who had inherited it from his parents, John and Anne (Weaver) Kemper. This Peter Kemper (d. 1824) was married to Mary Whitesides, sister of John Whitesides of Fayette Co, KY. The actual division of this tract seems to have been rather vague, so on 19 Sept 1791 [he] sold his share of this tract in preparation for removing to Kentucky, Peter and Mary (Whitesides) Kemper signed as co-owners of his tract as well. This may have been Mary's way of signing away her right of inheritance in this half of the tract.
