Maria Whitfield was born in Lymm, Cheshire, England.

Maria Whitfield died young.

Maria was baptised 6 April 1862 Lymm, Cheshire, England the daughter of John Whitfield Gardener and Anne Richards. ^[1]

In 1871 the family lived in Stockport Road, Thelwall, Cheshire.. ^[2]

Parents: John Whitfield (35, Gardener b Warrington), Ann Whitfield (41, b Wrexham, Wales)

Children: Maria Whitfield (10, b Lymm)

Around this time Maria was attending Thelwall school. She contracted scarlet fever and died. The sad entry in the school log for 9th March 1874 reads:

Two scholars Maria Whitfield and Thomas Bate succumbed to the violence of the disease (Scarlet Fever). ^[3]

She died 20 Feb 1874 at Thelwall aged 13 Years. and was buried 23 Feb 1874 All Saints Churchyard, Thelwall, Cheshire ^[4][5]
