Biography

Elihu was born in 1761. He was the son of William Whiting and Mary Wadsworth.

He married Margaret Paden or Paden 17 Sep 1783 in Farmington, Connecticut.^[1][2]

He passed away in 1839.

Information from pension application.

He was a private serving under Captain Bissell and Col Eno. Statement made by his brother William Whiting of Warsaw, Geneva County, New York. They lived with their father until he died in 1775 of sickness contracted while in the American army after fighting at Ticonderoga. William, Elihu and their younger brothers remained with their mother until Apr 1777 when William enlisted. Elihu enlisted in 1779 and served as a teamster for one year, and then served again in 1782. Was a resident of Auburn, Cayuga County, New York when awarded his pension 21 Sep 1832. His brother William was born 16 Dec 1758. Elihu died 16 Jun 1839.

A 1936 letter from Mrs. F.B. Brian named the following: William Whiting b. Oct 1736 in Hartford m. Mary Wadsworth. Their children: William Whiting b. 17 Dec 1758 West Hartford; Elihu Whiting b. 11 Jan 1761 lived in Washington County, New York in 1790; Elisha Whiting b. 21 Nov 1763 West Hartford; Charles Whiting b; 25 Aug 1765; James Whiting b. 28 Aug 1768 lived in Washington County, New York in 1790.
