Biography

Robert was born about 1672. He was the son of David Wickliffe and Elizabeth Unknown. He passed away in 1698.

That he is the son of David II and his first wife Elizabeth is based on the fact that he was of age in 1693, and so able to be one of his father's executors. Colonial laws at the time would have required him to be at least 21 at that time. He could not then be the son of David II's second wife, Mary, as David and Mary were married after Sep 1677.

He married Margaret (Pierce) Gower, daughter of Col. William Pierce, who also served as executor of Robert's estate. According to his will, Robert had one son, David, who apparently did not live to adulthood, as he does not appear in the records after being named in his father's will.

According to 'The McChords of Kentucky' and 'Kincheloe, McPherson and related families,' Robert Wickliffe above was married to Elizabeth King. Their son, Robert Wickliffe was married first to Dorcas Arrington, who died before 1724 and second to Elizabeth Anderson, who bore him Elizabeth Wickliffe about 1724, she married Daniel Kincheloe.

You are referring to the wrong Robert Wickliffe. This Robert was married to Margaret (Pierce) Gower, daughter of Col. William Pierce, as is attested by the Westmoreland County records. Specifically, see the following:

Wills of Westmoreland County, Virginia 1654-1800 by Augusta Fothergill, page 21

Wickleff, Robert, 26 January 1697; 30 March 1698. Son David; wife Margaret; brother David Wickleff; my father in law Col. Wm. Pierce.

Pierce is named as the executor of Robert Wickliffe's estate and is ordered to give to the "orphants" of Stanley Gower their share of their father's estate taken from Robert's estate who "intermarried with the widdow of Gower."

Please remember that "The McChords of Kentucky" and "Kincheloe, McPherson and related families" do not meet the standard of evidence required for pre-1700 sources on Wikitree, as I have previously mentioned.
