Biography

Flora Mae Wiggins was born on 03 April 1911 in Brooklyn, Conecuh County, Alabama, United States. She was the daughter of William Lihue Wiggins (1879-1972) and Rose Etta (Hildreth) Wiggins (~1880 - 1947). She was not named in her birth record.^[1][2]

She was enumerated in the household of her parents in Loango, Covington County, Alabama on the 1920 United States Census. Flora was 10 years old.^[3]

Florie Mae Wiggins and Dennis Franklin Smith were married on 10 October 1928 in Brooklyn, Conecuh County, Alabama.^[4] Florie and Dennis Smith were the parents of at least six children. Five of the children were named in Florie's husband's obituary when he died in 1957.^[5] Two of the children are now deceased; the others are presumed to be living.

Florie and her husband were enumerated together on the 1930, 1940, and 1950 United States Censuses. On the 1930 Census, they were living with Dennis' father, J. D. Smith in Brooklyn, Conecuh County, Alabama. On the 1940 Census, they were living with Dennis' widowed mother, Mary E. Smith in Brooklyn. ^[6][7] Florie and Dennis were living with four of their children and Florie's father in their own home in Centerville, Conecuh County Alabama in 1950. ^[8]

Flora remarried after the death of her first husband, but all that is known from records examined is that his surname was Andrews. Her obituary was published online at AL.com but is no longer accessible online. The index of the record at Ancestry.com listed the names of four of her children.^[9]

Flora Mae (Wiggins) Smith Andrews, passed away on 11 November 2006 in Evergreen, Conecuh County, Alabama at the age of 95.^[9] She was buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Evergreen, Conecuh County, Alabama, next to her first husband. A double stone was placed to mark their graves.^[10]
