Edward was the son of John Wight and Frances Hobart.

He was educated by Mr Ingram and entered Trinity College Dublin on 18 March 1749, B.A. 1753. ^[1]

Rector of Melick, and St. Munchins, in Limerick,

Edward married his cousin Frances Hobart, daughter of William Hobart, of High Mount, in the county of Cork, and of Mount Melick, in the King's County, in 1767.
