Samuel Wilde was born on 18 Nov 1860 in Hyde, Cheshire, England to William Wilde and Elizabeth (Greenhalgh) Wilde. His birth was registered in Stockport, Cheshire in the last quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Greenhalgh.[1]
Samuel Wilde, son of William & Elizabeth, was christened on 30 Dec 1860 at St George, Hyde.[2]
In 1861 Samuel Wilds (age 0) lived in Hyde with his father William (35, Coal Miner), mother Elizabeth (25), and brother Joseph (3).[3]
In 1871 Samuel Wilde (age 10, Scholar) lived in Hyde with his father William (43, Coal Miner), mother Elizabeth (36), and four siblings: Joseph (13, Labourer), Emma (8, Scholar), Henry (6, Scholar), and Elijah (0).[4]
Samuel's brother Joseph was one of the firemen working at the Hyde Lane Colliery. On the morning of 18 Jan 1889 Joseph was killed in an explosion in the mine. Samuel identified him.[5]
