In this way banner crops are produced, and in Rock Island county, where conditions are so favorable for transportation, the rural communities are in a flourishing condition. One of the prosperous farmers here is Jacob Cewe of Hampton township, owner of the Cedar Grove Farm. He is a son of John and Christina (Wildermuth) Cewe, natives of Germany. The father was brought to this country when six years old, and as settlement was made immediately in Hampton township, he was one of the pioneers of this locality. Jacob Cewe now resides on his father's early home. Nine children were born to the parents, eight of whom survive: Mary, Helen, Christina, Rose, Catherine, Jacob, Maggie, Daisy and Minnie. The kind father passed away in 1876, his widow surviving him until 1909. CONT CONT Jacob Cewe was reared on the homestead, attending the district school, and all his life has been spent in agricultural pursuits. He raises corn, oats and potatoes, and has made a success of all his undertakings. In 1897, he married Amanda Salow, and they have seven children: Pearl, John, Helen, Leon, Floyd, Grace and Irene. In politics, he is a republican and served for two terms as school director. Fraternally he is a member of the Modern Woodsmen of America. Having always been engaged in farming, Mr. Cewe has learned all the details of his work, and has long been recognized as an authority on such matters. He and his wife have many warm friends throughout Rock Island County to whom they dispense a generous hospitality whenever their home is visited.

CONT CONT </b>Coroner John F. Rose has received a sworn statement from Dr. E.W. Rockwood of the University of Iowa, to the effect that a careful chemical examination which he conducted himself, failed to show any traces of poisoning in the contents of the stomach of Mrs. Christiana Murkler of Hampton, whose death was surrounded by circumstances which caused a suspicion that she had been murdered, to arise. The finding of a jar containing arsenic in the kitchen at the Murkler home and other circumstances, caused Mrs. Murkler's spn, Jacob Cewe, to ask for an inquest in the case. The coroner adjourned the inquest and had the contents of Mrs. Murkler's stomach taken to the University of Iowa for examination. The coroner's jury will be convened again Monday and a verdict will probably be returned which will ignore any charges of murder. Two of the physicians who conducted an autopsy held to the poison theory, while the third, Dr. Ellingsworth of Watertown assigned gallstones as the cause of her death.

The coroner this afternoon issued a warrant for Miss Tina Mockler, who left suddenly Saturday afternoon for Grinnel, Iowa. CONT CONT Mrs. Mockler's death followed an illness believed to have been caused by poisoning, Saturday morning. She was taken sick suddenly after eating breakfast. When Mr. Mockler returned from the field, he found Miss Mockler gone, and his wife suffering great agony. He summoned Dr. Bruner, who in turn called in Drs. Ellingsworth of Watertown and Dr. Weise of Port Byron. The physicians agreed that the case was one of poisoning. The stomach pump was applied, but on account of Mrs. Mockler's age, recovery was impossible. CONT CONT Son is Suspicious. CONT CONT The coroner was notified of the case by Mrs. Mockler's son, Jacob Cewe, who stated that the circumstances warranted an inestigation. A jar containing arsenic was found in the kitchen. Miss Mockler's room was found in a topsy-turvy condition as the result of a rage Friday, and Miss Mockler was found to have left without giving any explanation. Mr. Cewe's wife stated that while she was at the home Friday, Miss Mockler declared that she would find a way to get rid of the "old woman," and that she intended to have a home of her own. Miss Mockler is reported to be considered mentally unsound in the neighborhood. CONT CONT She left Hampton Saturday afternoon, purchasing a ticket for Grinnell. CONT CONT Inquest Adjourned. CONT CONT Coroner Rose has adjourned the inquest to tomorrow, and the three physicians are conducting an autopsy this afternoon. They have given out no statement and decline to state their opinion of the case until the inquest is held.

Dr. J. H. Ellingsworth of Watertown maintains that death was due to gallstones, but Drs. J. W. Wiese and J. M. Bruner hold to their original idea that Mrs. Murkler was poisoned with arsenic. They claim that arsenic in small quantities is difficult to detect, and can be found only by a chemical analysis. They declined to give evidence until the contents of the stomach were subjected to a chemical analysis, and accordingly the coroner sent the remains to the university. CONT CONT Delay the Funeral. CONT CONT The family has arranged to hold the funeral tomorrow afternoon, but the coroner states that unless he hears from the university the remains must not be interred, and the funeral must be postponed until the results of the examination is learned. CONT CONT Information from Grinnell this afternoon is to the effect that Miss Tina Murkler, the step-daughter of the dead woman, who is wanted in connection with the coroner's investigation, was there yesterday, but is not at Grinnell today.
