Mary (Wilkins) Poole is a part of US Black heritage.
Mary E Wilkins was born 28 May 1882 in North Carolina, according to her death certificate. Census records give birth years between 1880[1]-1883[2] and state the location as North Carolina[3] or New York[4] or Connecticut.[5][6][7]
She was the daughter of Mary Ellis and Civil War veteran Sergeant James H. Wilkins of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first regiment in the United States made up entirely of enlisted men of color.

She married Cornelius W. Poole, a widower with three children, on 30 Nov 1910 in New Haven, Connecticut. [8]
Mary moved to New Bern, North Carolina. Her three children were all born in North Carolina. [9]
