Bettie was born in Alabama on 06 Dec 1896. She was the oldest of two daughters of William Williams and Alabama Harrell. In the 1900 census Bettie and her family were in North Birmingham in Jefferson County, Alabama. In 1930 she was a self-employed music teacher living with her uncle and aunt, Oliver and Bessie Attaway, in Birmingham. In 1940 she was rooming with a family in Mount Olive, Jefferson County and was still teaching music. She reported that she had five years of college education. Bettie never married and died in Birmingham on 28 Sep 1979 at age 82. She was buried in Barton Cemetery, Barton, Colbert County, Alabama where her sister is also buried.
