Biography

William M. Williams owned a store and sawmill and countered with a suit against W. A. Lowrimore for a past due account. The court awarded William A. Lowrimore a judgement for the difference in the accounts. Some of the items included in the detailed record presented by Lowrimore were: 5/12/1781, riveting a blade on hoe; 11/25/1781, making a pair of shoes; 5/28/1782, two bushels of rough rice; 9/27/1782, riveting a clog on your winch; 1/14/1783, one hog weighting 130 pounds; 1/14/1783, six bushels of corn; 3/6/1783, five dozen candles; 5/17/1783, two bushels of peas, three bushels of potatoes and one canoe.

Other items were: 10/12/1783, eighteen raw deer skins, six days work of Fortune about your piazza's steps, three days of my time about your piazza, eight quarters of venison by agreement at sundry times, lead you sold me and was taken out in venison, three quarters of mutton at sundry times; 1/7/1784, one day's work of Fortune about your post; 1/12/1784, thirteen fowls; 4/5/1784, making a hoop for your pot. Several entries were made from May 1784 through October 1784 for Fortune squaring lumber, making a screw for a mill, making a body for a cart, making two horse bells, making a fluke plough and coulter (disc).

Among things that Micajah Williams listed in his suit was a rice sieve borrowed but not returned when Micajah moved up the Pee Dee on December 19, 1782. Several charges were made for slaves hired out to Lowrimore. There was reference to trips to Black River and a canoe in the Black River swamp. Other charges included cloth, thread, rum (by the gallon), shot, gun powder, duck shot sent to Lowrimore by the winch Ballows, goods paid negro Dick for Lowrimore out of the store and wine.

William Micajah Williams arrived in Charles Town on the Scooner, Harrietta on June 24, 1765 from Georgia. He married Agnes Avant and had a son, Henry Williams about 1775. William and Agnes purchased property in Marion County, South Carolina, in February 1790. Henry married Ann M. Jordan. John Benjamin Lowrimore married Ann Julian Williams, the youngest daughter of William Micajah Williams. John and Ann's descendants still lived on this 500 acres in the 1990s. May 21, 1811, John Benjamin Lowrimore and Ann Julian Williams sold the 154 acres of the 404 acres in Georgetown County to Henry Williams. William A. Lowrimore filed suit in the Georgetown court against William Micajah Williams regarding an account he had with him (South Carolina Archives Judgement Roll Box 131A, #518A).
  • Let me know if any of the above helps us solve this puzzle. I have a book about the Kirtons, Finkleas and Avants and it just shows that Agnes Avant married a Williams and does not name him. After his death the widow Williams married William Thomas Kirton, Jr. and had three sons: Thomas Kirton, who moved to Horry County, South Carolina and his residence is shown on Mill's Atlas as near Gallivants Ferry, Phillip Cannon Kirton, born 16 July 1767 and Elizabeth Kirton. Philliip Cannon Kirton's tombstone is on private property East of Great Pee Dee River.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

Here is the reason there are no DNA connections prior to the birth of William Micajah Williams born abt 1740 in Wales: According to Family Tree DNA in Houston, Texas and YFULL Corp, in Russia is because we are either from the surname Davis or Davies. It appears William (my 4x GGF) changed his name for some reason.
