Biography

Joseph was born in 1709 to James Williams Elizabeth Blackmar[1]

Joseph passed away in 1761 and is buried at a family burial ground in Providence in what is now Roger Williams Park.[1]

The will of Joseph Williams of Cranston, is dated 12 January 1760 or 1761 and was exhibited to the Cranston Town Council on 29 September 1761.[2] It mentions

  • daughters Elizabeth Williams and Sarah Williams (both under 21 years old)
  • wife Lydia Williams

History of the town of Marlborough, Middlesex county, Massachusetts, page 471 [1]

There was another family of Williamses which came into town later, whose ancestry is not ascertained.

Joseph Williams m. Lydia , and had a numerous family. She probably died, and he m. May 28, 1766, Zeruiah Johnson.

Aug. 3, 1757 ; resided in South., and was reraarkable for size, weighing nearly 400. Patte, b. Nov. 20, 1759 ; m. AprU 30, 1780, Nathaniel P. Russell.
