When he was 4 months old hot coffee was spilled on him and he died of his injuries. His death was recounted in the newspaper:
Fatally Scalded
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur William's four months old infant met with a sad accident last Thursday from the effects of which it died Friday morning. It seems that the poor little child turned a cup of hot coffee over on itself in some way and was fatally scalded thereby. The family have the sympathy of the whole community in their bereavement. -- El Capitan[2]
Note
