Biography

John Paul was baptized on 10 June 1849 in Truro, Cornwall, England. He arrived in New Zealand on 16 October 1864 on the ship "Eaglespeed" with parents John and Mary, and brothers Thomas and Charles. John married Emily (maiden name Williams?) in 1873 in Victoria, Australia and their children included:

General regret will be expressed at the sudden death yesterday of Miss Mabel Paul, daughter of Mr John Paul Williams, well and favourably known at Thames. The deceased, who was held in high, esteem, was attacked with a sudden seizure on Saturday afternoon, and medical assistance was summoned so serious were the symptoms. Miss Williams suffered throughout the night, and about 2 o'clock yesterday morning succumbed, the cause of death being heart failure. The sympathy of all is extended to the sorrowing family.

Mr Williams was a resident of Thames in the early days of the field. He was a successful mine manager and tributer here, and was very well known. The late Mr Williams, who is a brother-in-law of Mr G. Warne, Thames, was interred at Waiokaraka yesterday.
