Edgar Williamson was born on 3 October 1898 in Matakanui, Central Otago, New Zealand as the son of Archibald Williamson and Margary Robertson McLaren[1].
He was a member of the 12th Mounted Rifles, before his enlistment on 26 October 1917 in Oamaru, New Zealand. He reported to Training Camp on 3 April 1918. On his Attestation Paper, he listed his civilian occupation as Ploughman working for Mrs. S. Hutton in Livingstone. He sailed from Wellington, with the 39th Reinforcements on Transport Ship No. 106, on 13 June 1918 arriving in Jamaica on 12 July 1918. On 2 August 1918, he then sailed on the S.S. Goentoer arriving in Liverpool, England on 31 August 1918. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, Otago Infantry Regiment for the remainder of his service. According to his service records he sailed for New Zealand, on the 'Port Harding' from Liverpool, on 4 July 1919. He was discharged on 17 September 1919[2][3].
He married Agnes Winifred Goodfellow on 24 January 1923 in New Zealand[4].
He died on 16 March 1994 in Blenheim, Marlborough, New Zealand[5].
He was buried in Havelock Cemetery, Havelock, Marlborough, New Zealand [6].
