Son of Nathaniel "Hopping Nat" Wilmot and Francis/Frances Wilmot.
Husband of Ardalitha Hall.
Father of William Elliot Wilmot, Allen B. Wilmot, Miles H. Wilmot, Nathaniel D. Wilmot, Martha J. Wilmot Payne, Joseph W. Wilmot, Thomas G. Wilmot, Lucius K Wilmot and Marian Wilmot.[1]
Of his father, Rev. William Elliot Wilmot wrote: "My father, M.G. Wilmot, was born in Charlotte County, Virginia, June 7th, 1798. His parents emigrated to Caswell County, N.C. When he was a small boy he was brought up in that county and educated in the same. Although limited in education he was sufficiently able to transact the common business of a farmer which was his vocation."
"In politics he was ever a Democrat. In his religion he was a Methodist. He united with that branch of the church prior to the date of his (second) marriage, in 1844.He adhered to and associated with the M.E. Church South, and died an official member of that church. He was united in marriage to Ardalitha Hall in year 1820. The names of his children were 1st Allen B. Wilmot, 2nd William E. Wilmot, 3rd Miles H. Wilmot, 4th Nathaniel D. Wilmot, 5th Martha J. Wilmot, 6th Joseph W. Wilmot, 7th Thomas G. Wilmot, 8th Marian L. Wilmot. These were all born in Caswell County, N.C. In 1835 he emigrated to Kentucky. Stopped first in Lincoln County and for 5 years on a farm, as a renter, then owned by Solomon Roberts."
"In 1840 he moved a few miles to the edge of Rockcastle county, to a farm then owned by old James Roberts, near where Gumsulphur now stands. His house became a regular place for divine service and at this place there was one other son born whom they named Lucius K. Wilmot. He died in infancy and was buried near by. About this time he bought a farm on Copper Creek, Rockcastle County, Kentucky, and on that he remained to the day of his death. In 1851, October 19th, my mother died. In a few years after this he was married the second time to Mrs. Mahulda Rose (Fugate) who gave birth to two sons, the 1st called Bruce B. Wilmot, the 2nd they named Sidney who died in infancy. I never can forget (neither do I wish to) the day that I received my father’s last parting kiss. It was June the 5th, 1871.A moment before I stepped on the cars at Gumsulphur, Rockcastle County, Kentucky, I took him by the hand for the last time. He impressed his last kiss on my cheek and commended his farewell blessing on his second born son. In 7 days from that day, I was in Portland Oregon. We continued to correspond to the day of his death (or while he was able to write). He died at his residence in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, November the __(27th), 1877."[2]
