Eleanor Gilbert is the mother of Australian bushranger, John Gilbert.[1]
Biography
Eleanor Wilson was born in 1802 in London, the daughter of Joseph Wilson and his wife Ann. [2]
Eleanor married William John Gilbert on 23 April 1826 at St John the Evangelist Church, Westminster, London.[3]
Eleanor and William emigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1830, when she was 28 years old.[4]
Eleanor passed away in 1842, and it is presumed she died in Hamilton City.
Around 1853 her family emigrated to Victoria, Australia. It was here that her son became the renowned bushranger John Gilbert.
