Biography

Richard Windsor was born about January of 1751 in or near the small village of Queen Camel in the county of Somersetshire which is found in the south west of England. He was the third generation of boys named Richard Windsor after his father and grandfather. He was the fifth child and third son born to Richard and Ruth Windsor. They would eventually have eight children, evenly split with four sons and four daughters. Richard's parents had him baptized at the church in Queen Camel on January 13, 1751. Two separate records of the event have survived in the church records.

Richard is known to have married a young woman named Ruth, but no record of the event has been found. Ruth was born about 1752, so she was about 24 years old at the marriage and Richard was about 25 years. They had four children together, two sons and two daughters, with the two boys coming first, followed by the two girls. Sadly, Ruth died at or soon after the last child as she is recorded as being buried at Queen Camel on March 29, 1784 at only 32 years of age. It is not known if Richard re-married and he eventually joined her in eternal rest, being buried at Queen Camel some 45 years later at the age of 79 on November 05, 1829.
