Biography

Sarah was named after her father's sister Sarah Ann Bradford (nee Withall) In Exmouth Devon. On Thursday the 21st September 1899, Sarah then 16 years of age, was charged in the Kadina Police Court as being uncontrollable. The Kadina and Wallaroo Times Newspaper dated Saturday 23rd September 1899, page 2 reported, that she was charged by her father Richard Withall as being an uncontrollable child, and from the evidence given at the time that she was leading a bad life, and had mixed with bad company, and was altogether out of control of her parents. The bench decided that she should be sent to the Adelaide Industrial school until the age of 18 years. She was aged 21 years at the time of her marriage to William Gooley, they were married in the Methodist Parsonage, Moonta. Reference: Adelaide
