Later his unit went to southern France. It is likely he was involved in the World War II, Allied Forces, Southern France Campaign[3] during 15 August to the 14th of September 1944 including operation DRAGOON, This operation helped pave the way for the buildup on the Normandy beachheads.

In 1943 his unit landed in Sicily. From there they went to the Italian mainland.
It is possible that his army unit was a part of Operation Husky under the command of General Dwight D. Eisenhower. [6]
