Biography

Charles was born in 1924. He is the son of Charles Wohlhuter and Florence Marren. He passed away in 1974. [1]

1930 Census shows her as age 5 living at 1301 4th St, Ward 1, Geneva, Kane, IL with parents Charles & Florence; and brother Charles. Born in New Jersey.

1940 Census shows him as age 15 living at 415 Campbell St, Geneva, Kane, IL with parents Chas & Florence.

Served in the Navy during WWII. Enlisted 10 Jul 1942, released 17 Mar 1946. Sailed on the USS Ranger, CV-4, Dec 1943 to Jul 1944. During this time the Ranger was used for training carrier pilots, and delivered P-38 fighters to Casablanca, Morocco. Sep 1944 he sailed on USS Silverstein, DE-534. At that time it was leaving Norfolk, VA, sailed through the Panama Canal to Pearl Harbor, then on to Guam joining the 5th Fleet, supporting a task group off Iwo Jima.

WWII Draft Registration 5 days after discharge shows him as age 21 living at 406 S. 4th Street, Geneva, IL. Born 9 Dec 1924 in Westfield, NJ. Contact is wife Betty. Was unemployed on date of registration. He was 5'8", 140lbs.

1950 St. Charles, Illinois Directory shows Charles R. & Betty as living at 738 Anderson Blvd, Geneva, Illinois. He is an assistant cashier at the First National Bank of Geneva.

SSDI shows birth on 9 Dec 1924, SSN issued in Illinois, and death in May 1974.

Buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Geneva, Kane, Illinois.
