Biography

Alexander was born in 1804.^[1] In 1839, he was a dentist at 52 First St, on Manhattan, New York.^[2] In this year he learned the daguerreotype process from Samuel Morse. He obtained the first patent for a camera (U.S. patent No. 1,582) for the “method of taking a likeness by means of a concave reflector and plates so prepared that luminous or other rays will act thereon.” ^[3] He passed away in 1844.^[4]
