Biography

John B. Womack was born in September 1793 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. He was the son of Abner Womack and Martha Byars. He passed away in October 1846 in De ]Ssoto County, Mississippi.[1]

John moved to Warren County, Tennessee about 1810 with his parents. They settled in the 15th District community known as Crossroads. John probably married Rebecca Renfro in Tennessee. He is said to have gone to DeKalb County, Tennessee, but no record found for him there.

All of his children who are found on later census reports state they were born in Alabama. John and Rebecca must have arrived in Alabama very soon after their marriage. He was a county official in Lauderdale County, Alabama from about 1828-1831.[2] The family left Alabama after 1833 and by 1840 the family was living in De Soto County, Mississippi.

Marriage

John married Rebecca Renfro. No marriage record has been found. First child, Burgess Harrelson, was born in March 1819. Estimate marriage date about March 1818 in Tennessee.

Land Purchases

A John B. Womack purchased 150 acres in Holmes County, Mississippi on 27 February 1841.[3] He is said to be "of Lauderdale County, Mississippi." Both Holmes and Lauderdale Counties are some distance from De Soto County, Mississippi where John Burgess Womack is on the Federal census in 1840 and the Mississippi State census in 1841 and 1845. So not certain this John B. Womack is John Burgess Womack. If anyone knows of another John B. Womack in Mississippi at this time, please advise.
