Christenings, St Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey:[1]
21 Feb 1781: born Jany 24 John George S. of John and Elizth Wood (Gent) new Road
John and Elizabeth's marriage banns were originally read in December 1808 at St John, Hackney; both John and Elizabeth were recorded as bachelor/spinster of that parish.[2]
The banns were read again at Stepney shortly before their marriage.[3]
"John Geo Wood of this parish & hamlet of Ratclif, batchelor and Eliz'h Mary Crutchfield of the same parish and hamlet, spinster were married in this church by Banns" on 3 Jan 1810 at St Dunstan Stepney, London. The witnesses were Thomas Davis, Elizabeth Marsden and Louisa Elliott Lessly.[3]
John, Elizabeth and family were living in St George in the East at St George's Place in 1810-1811, John St in 1815, Chapman Street (Shadwell) in 1818, and Lower Chapman Street (Shadwell) in 1824. They were living at St George in the East in 1829 but son William was baptised in Shadwell. In son George's baptism entry in 1812 (the same day as older brother John), the address is given as Salisbury St, St. Mary Magdalene, Bermondsey, and George later gave his birthplace as Rotherhithe.
