Biography

Ephriam Wood was born in Concord, Massachusetts, on February 4, 1701-2, the son of Jacob Wood and Mary Wheeler.[1][2][3]

He married Mary Buss, daughter of Peter and Rachel (Fletcher) Buss, about 1729, based on the birthdate of their first child. She died September 11, 1781, at the age of 75.[1][4] Children, born in Concord:[2]

  1. Oliver, born April 11, 1730; married, June 13, 1750, Lucy Hosmer.[1][5][6]
  2. Ephraim, Jr., born August 1, 1733; married 1st, October 24, 1758, Mary Heald, 2nd, January 28, 1808, Mrs. Milliscent Barrett; died April 8, 1814.[1][7][8][9][10]
  3. Amos, born April 14, 1737; married, February 24, 1763, Dorothy Dakin, of Sudbury, Massachusetts; died February 15, 1806.[1][11][12][13]
  4. Peter, born June 23, 1740; married, November 22, 1764, Sybill Howe; died March 5, 1820.[1][14][15][16]
  5. Mary, born March 6, 1741; died unmarried, December 11, 1773, aged 32.[1][17][18]
  6. Rebecca, born February 21, 1743; married, October 3, 1764, Jared Smith.[1][19][20]

Ephraim settled on the farm that his father and grandfather had occupied in Concord. He was selectman in 1749, and captain of the Concord company.[1]

Capt. Ephraim Wood died in Concord "March 20th 1789 : in the 88th year of his age." (Gravestone).[1][21] He is buried at the Old Hill Burying Ground in Concord. His will was written July 31, 1782, and proved September 11, 1789. In it are named sons: Oliver, Ephraim, Peter, and Amos "the Sole Executor," daughter, Rebecca Smith and her husband Jared.[22]
