Biography

Frances was born in 1788 in Georgia as reported in both the 1850 and 1860 US Census.

If we assume this is true, and if Woodall was her maiden name (and there is no known reason to conclude otherwise), her parents can be found in Georgia in 1788 and in Franklin County no later than 1813 when she married.

Wilkes County Ga Tax Lists: 1786 p91 Capt Read's Dist. No property. Same district as Robert & John Woodall. This district was on Little River in what became Greene County p13 and Taliaferro County in 1825 p620). 1786 p108 Capt Read's Dist. No property. Same district as John Acree. This district was on Little River in what became Greene County p13).

1787 p223 Capt Read's Dist. 100a in Wilkes County. Same district as Robert & John Woodall.

1790. p155 Capt Rutledge's Dist. 300a in Greene County. .Same district as Robert, John, & Jacob & Michael Woodall.

On 14 July 1790 in Greene County, Joseph Woodall purchased several estate sale items from N Alexander.[1]

1791. p 318. Capt Gresham's Dist. 100a in Wilkes County. Same district as John Acre.

On 24 Feb 1791, Joseph Woodall sold William Acree (both of Wilkes County) 100 acres on Little River that had been granted to Woodall on 15 Jan 1791. Wilkes Co, Ga Deed Book II: 264. 1792-1794. William Acree (abt.1730-1796) had daughters named Frances and Susannah (who married a Woodall).

1792. p410. No property. Same district as William Acre who paid tax on 150 acres on Little River next to Francis Young and 300 acres on Long Creek next to Joseph Woodall. Also in distrct, John Woodall, Robert Woodall.

1793. p 515. Capt John Flukers Dist. 100a in Wilkes County. Same district as William Acre, John Woodall, Robert Woodall. Joseph's land bordered Daniel.

On 25 Jan 1793 in Wilkes (now Oglethorpe) County, Georgia, Joseph Woodall sold 100 acres on Long Creek (adjacent to William Acre who also later that year sold Robert Allison 300 acres) to Robert Allison [2] These lands had been granted to John Harden Foster on 10 Feb 1785. "Theo" Simonton witnessed.

That same day Joseph sold 180 acres to Thomas Simonton (witnessed by Robert Allison); land had been granted to John Harden Foster on 10 Feb 1785. Oglethorpe Co Ga Deed Book A: 152

1794. p 609. Capt John Flukers Dist. 100a in Wilkes County on Stephens Creek. Same district as William Acree, Sharon Achree, John Woodall Sr, John Woodall Jr, Robert Woodall. Joseph's land bordered Zach Bays.

1796. p693. Capt Hiram Howard's Dist. Joseph has 90 acres in Wilkes County in Ogeechee watershed bordering William Few.[3] Same district as Robert and John Woodall and John Acrey who was also administering the estate of William Acrey.

1797. p759. Captain Hiram Howard's district. Joseph has 90 acres in Wilkes County in Ogeechee watershed bordering Harris and Few. same district as Jonathan Woodall, Robert Woodall, John Woodall Sr, John Woodall Jr, Sharon Acrey.

On 26 July 1805 in Greene County, Georgia, Robert Woodall sold 155 acres to John Miller, as witnessed by Joseph Woodall.[4]

1807: Joseph Woodall of Elbert County, Georgia draws twice and wins land in Wilkinson County.[5] Married man with wife and/or child under 21 years, 3~year residence in Georgia, citizen of United States 2 draws.

On 1 Jan 1809, in Greene County, Georgia, Robert Woodall witnessed the sale to Simon Morris of 78 acres that formerly belonged to John Woodall Sr adjacent to Martin Woodall and Simon Morris.[6]

On 25 Jan 1814 in Baldwin County, Georgia, Robert was paid a debt at the settlement of the estate of Charles Sheppard.[7]

On 16 Jan 1817 in Franklin County, Georgia, Joseph Woodall and Eli Shankle witnessed a deed from James & Elizabeth Hargroves to Thomas Nunn for 143 acres on Beaverdam Creek.[8]

On 1 Apr 1822 in Franklin County, Georgia, Joseph Woodall gave all his property to his orphaned stepdaughters Lucy and Rebecca York.[9] Is this Joseph a brother of Frances? Stepdaughter Rebecca married Wade Anthony in 1833 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia and was a neighbor to the Nunns in the 1850 Census.

On 23 Feb 1828, Joseph Woodall of South Carolina bought land in Habersham County, Georgia.[10] This Joseph Woodall appears unrelated.

1833. Joseph Woodall of Oglethorpe County filed a pension application. https://revwarapps.org/s32081.pdf This Joseph very much appears to be the brother of Robert Woodall.
