When John Woodard was born in 1755 in Surry, North Carolina, his father, Peter, was 25. He married Winnifred Broughton in 1774 in his hometown. They had one child during their marriage. He died as a young father in 1782 in Macon, North Carolina, at the age of 27.
Military
There is a John Woodard listed in the US Revolutionary War Rolls, 1775-1783 in the North Carolina 1st Battalion [1]. It is possible this is the same John Woodard.
Research Notes
Recently Woodard-2490 discovered a 111 Marker Y-DNA Match on Family Tree DNA that would indicate John Woodard or his father is probably the common ancestor. The match had traced their line back to Thomas Young Woodard 1770-1834 which makes him contemporaneous with William. Either a brother or cousin?
DNA - Descendants and ancestors in direct male line should be haplogroup I-M223 based on two descendants matching on Family Tree DNA big Y test.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.

Unfortunately, auDNA is not yielding overlapping matches - Bobbie, Eddie and Allen all match each other but no 3-way overlaps.

Ancestors are a problem. There is no good citation for his father. Mary Snow was definitely not his mother since she was born, lived and died in a different colony (state)
I am pretty sure of this entry but - his father - John Peter Woodard - I have mostly found Peter Woodard in the records and not entirely sure if it's John Peter Woodard or if John and Peter are two different people with same age and perhaps ancestors.
