Alice Augusta Woods was born in Walthamstow, Essex on 6 August 1849. Her birth was registered in West Ham, Essex in the third quarter of 1849.[1] She was the daughter of Samuel Woods, a stockbroker.
At the time of the 1871 England and Wales census, Jesse M, Elizabeth, and Alice Woods were listed as living in Broadwater, Sussex.[2] At the time of the census, Alice's occupation was listed as "Income From Father".
Alice Woods was an educationist, advocating for co-education and the professional training of teachers. She entered Girton College, Cambridge in 1877 at the age of 28.
In 1884, she was appointed headmistress of Bedford Park School in Chiswick.
Alice died in Radlett, Hertfordshire on 7 January 1941. Her death was registered in Watford, Hertfordshire in the first quarter of 1941.[3]
