Biography

Captain Charles Woods served in the United States Civil War.

Charles Henry Woods was born Oct 8, 1836 in Newport, New Hampshire. He was son of John Woods and Achsah Baker. He married Carrie C. Rice of Brookfield, Vermont on Sep 22, 1862.

Mr Woods became an attorney-at-law of high standing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. [1]

He was educated at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire and Williams College. He studied law in Lowell, Massachusetts and Newport, New Hampshire, and resided in Fitzwilliam from 1854 to 1865. [2]

Charles was in the army as Captain of Company F, Sixteenth Regiment New Hampshire Volunteers, from September, 1862, to September, 1863, and held a Government clerkship at Washington, D. C. in 1864 and 1865. In 1866 Mr. Woods removed to Minneapolis, Minnesota and was been in successful practice as a lawyer there as a member of the law firm Woods & Hahn, the junior partner being the Attorney-General of Minnesota.
