John William Woolcock was born in 1871. He is the son of Charles Woolcock and Mary Lovell. [1]He spent most of his early life in Greymouth, where his father was a store keeper and involved in local and national politics. From 4 June 1877 until 2 September 1878, he was at the Wallis Family Home in Motueka with his brothers and sisters. His uncle, Thomas Lovell, and E.F Jones paid surety to the orphanage.[2] He then moved to Wellington and later to Normanby[3] and New Plymouth where he was a farmer.
John married Mary Wilson in 1897.[4] The children of John and Mary were: Robert Lionel James, Jack Fitzgerald and Margaret Alexandra.[5]
John passed away in 1955[6] and is buried in the Hurdon Cemetery, New Plymouth.[7][8]
