He was a chemist in Auckland and Wellington, and later in Tauranga. According to his obituary, "game shooting was one of his favourite pastimes" and he was "regarded as one of the best shots in district". He served on the Tauranga Borough Council for five years.
He married Louisa Alice Naden Matthews in 1913.[1] A son, Charles Frederick, was born in 1917.[2]
