Biography

Lydia (Lidia) Hanna Jane Youngblood was the second daughter of Josiah and Mary Horton Youngblood. Lydia was born in Wayne County, Tennessee, on 12 Jan 1844. [2, 3]

She is found in 1850 US Federal Census records for Wayne County, Tennessee, as "Lydia" (age 6) with her parents; her brother, William; and her sister, Malinda. [9]

The 1860 US Census for Wayne County, Tennessee, lists her parents Josiah and Mary Youngblood, and shows Lydia as "Hannah J." (age 16), and her sister, Margaritte (Margarite Elizabeth) age 5 months. [4]

Almon Sims's genealogy book on the Sims family states, "Matthew James Sims Jr., married Lidia Youngblood, sister of the wife of his brother, Shields Sims." [1]

Lydia Hanna Jane Youngblood married Matthew Joseph Sims Jr. on 23 Jan 1885, in Wayne County, Tennessee. [5]

Lydia and M.J. were the parents of two known children: Matthew "Matt" Josiah Sims, 1865-1896; and William Clay "Willie" Sims, 1862-1949 [1, 9]

The 1870 US Census lists the family as still living in Wayne County, and "Lydia H. J.," 26 years old, listed as "housekeeping" for her occupation. [6]

Her first husband Matthew J. Sims Jr. died on 12 May, 1870, at age 31, and he was buried on 18 May 1871 in Huttons Hollow, Wayne County, Tennessee. [1]

Lydia Youngblood Sims married James Knox Polk "J.P." Gravitt on 20 Nov 1872 in Wayne County. [7]

The 1880 US Census places the new family still in Wayne County and with three new children: James J. (age 5), Nellie M. (age 9), and "Benn" (age two months). Her husband James P. is age 36 and his occupation is listed as "works in saddle shop." Lydia is listed as "Lyddy" (age 37) and with the occupation of "keeping house." [8]

Lyddy Hanna Jane Youngblood Sims Gravitt died on 23 Jan 1885, in Wayne County, Tennessee, and she is listed in the document "Cemeteries in the Three Church Quadrangle, Wayne County, Tennessee." [9]
