George Albert Younghans was born in 1855,[1] the son of Henry Younghans and Katherine (Beck) Younghans. One census and his Death Certificate say that he was born in Pennsylvania (presumably Eire), whereas two others say that he was born in Michigan.
Occupation
"Al Younghans painted carriages for Bill Neebling."[2] The insane asylum where he died recorded that he had been an engineer,[3] by which they meant a driver of a locomotive. Given his father Henry's boarding house for railroad employees, and his work on railroad cars, the opportunity was certainly present. Like his father, he too ran a boarding house in Ionia, Michigan, which his widow ran after his death (four boarders).[4]
Societies
George belonged to at least two societies: the Masons, and the Maccabees, both of which showed up in great numbers for his funeral.[5]
Marriage
He married Cora M. Decker (13 Aug 1858 - 18 Dec 1945) on 6 October 1881 in Hudson, Lenawee County, Michigan.[6]
Married C. J. Scridder. Died in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
