Thomas Zachary was born in England about 1624.[1] Thomas' father is believed to be William Zachary who lived about 1565 in Hedcorn, Kent, England although that would have made him 60 when Thomas was born so there might be a generation between them.
Thomas trained as a physician.
Thomas Zachary possibly married three times although it is not confirmed if all three marriages are the same Thomas.
A Thomas Zachary married Sarah Boylston about 1643 and they had a daughter Sara in 1643.[2] Sarah wife of Thomas Zachary died in 1645.[3]
A Thomas Zachary married Dorothy (unknown) before 1650 and they had a son Thomas in 1650.[4] Dorothy wife of Thomas Zachary died in 1663.[5]
Thomas was a Friend (Quaker)
Thomas Zachary became a Quaker some time before 1664.
Thomas Zachary married Rebecca Elizabeth Yorke (nee. Murford), a widow, on 18 11m (Jan) 1664 (1665) in London.[6][7]
Thomas moved to Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire and became a member of the Monthly Meeting of Upperside, Buckinghamshire.[8] His first two children with Rebecca, Thomas (b. 1665) and Rebecca (b. 1669) were born in Rickmansworth and the third Daniel (b. 1671) was born in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire and they are listed in the birth register for the Upperside Monthly Meeting.
Thomas was involved in the Aris-Lacy episode in 1669 where two informants Aris and Lacy went to Jordans Meeting where Thomas had attended the previous month and afterwards laid an information against Thomas Zachary and his wife, who happened to be in London at the time. He was unjustly sent to the County Gaol but with assistance of his friend Thomas Ellwood was freed and Ellwood brought an indictment for wilful perjury against the two informers.[8]
Thomas' family moved back to Middlesex and they had two further children: Elizabeth Zachary (b. 1675), Winifrid Zachary (b. 1678).
