French writer, politician, diplomat and historian who is considered the founder of Romanticism in French literature. Descended from an old aristocratic family from Brittany, Chateaubriand was a royalist by political disposition; in an age when a number of intellectuals turned against the Church, he authored the Génie du christianisme in defense of the Catholic faith. His works include the autobiography Mémoires d'Outre-Tombe ("Memoirs from Beyond the Grave", published posthumously in 1849–1850).

François-René de Chateaubriand was a prominent French writer, diplomat, and politician who lived from 1768 to 1848. He is known for his works of literature, such as "Atala" and "Mémoires d'Outre-Tombe," as well as his political and diplomatic career.

Chateaubriand died on July 4, 1848, in Paris, at the age of 79. The cause of his death was natural, as he died of old age. Chateaubriand had suffered from ill health for many years prior to his death, including a stroke in 1830 that left him partially paralyzed. Despite his health issues, he remained active in politics and continued to write until his death.

Chateaubriand was a prominent figure in French literature and politics during his lifetime, and his legacy continues to influence French culture and society today.
