Need help finding Italian records

I am looking for any help locating and translating Italian records for [[Businelli-1|Giuseppi Businelli]]. I have been able to obtain a copy of his petition to become a naturalized citizen but the courthouse did not have anything else. His parents were listed on his death record which may help locating then in Italy as it is not believed that they ever left Italy. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kaylee,

The major problem here is the timeline. Udine was part of the Kingdom of Lombardy-Veneto between 1815 and 1866, which was under Austrian control. Under Austrian domination, there was no civil recordkeeping like there was in the south and Sicily - all the records from that period are church records, and they're not available online.

The best I can do is find records of family members who remained in Italy and married or died after 1871, when civil records began in Udine. I believe I have found marriage records of several siblings of Giuseppe, but they all appear to be transcriptions of marriages that took place earlier in Trieste (which remained under Austrian control and did not become part of Italy until after WWI):

The transcriptions give birth dates of some of the siblings:

  • Vittorio Emmanuele, 6 Sep 1859 in San Giorgio di Nogaro
  • Matilde Palmira, 8 Jul 1861 in San Giorgio di Nogaro
  • Enrica is just said to be age 28 in 1883, so born 1854/1855
  • Anna Maria, 16 Apr 1866 in San Giorgio di Nogaro

Oh wow, I had even read a bit about Udine and I guess I never really made the connection in regards to civil records for that time. Thank you so much for the help and records found.. Is there any chance that you were able to find out more about his parents?
Nothing on the parents. The 1898 marriage record of Anna Maria says the parents are still living in San Giorgio. But the available records only go until 1900. So you could search the death records for 1898-1900 there to see if they are listed, but after that there's way to know from what's available online.
Thank you so much for the help. It is greatly appreciated!!! Hopefully this information will open up some new avenues for me.
A similar case happened in Ravenna and other provinces in Emilia-Romagna. Might want to try https://www.italianparishrecords.org
