Biography section order conflict [closed]

Question

[[Help:Biographies]] and [[Help:Research Note Boxes]] give conflicting information for the order of {{Project Boxes}} and {{Research Note Boxes}} above the == Biography ==:

[[Help:Biographies]] says {{Research Note Boxes}}, then {{Project Boxes}}.

[[Help:Research Note Boxes]] says {{Project Boxes}}, then {{Research Note Boxes}}

[[Help:Project Boxes]] doesn't mention {{Research Note Boxes}}.

The [[Help:Research Note Boxes]] page is correct, right?

Recommend two of the three pages be revised for consistency.

Well spotted, Ken. See also the recent G2G question Discrepancy in WT Help for Research Notes Box placement by S Willson. The Team will need to make a decision and then edit one or other page.

Not sure what tags should be added to this question to get a response from the Admin Team, since they do the Help pages.  The other question also got no response.

Good question, Linda. Since the Team does not seem to have seen either of the questions, one way to draw their attention would be for Ken to add the tag  sysops  to this question.

For the record, the consensus is apparently that Help:Biographies is right, and Help: Research Note Boxes needs to be changed.

The other question has had sysops tag added to it, which should cover both questions since Jim added a link to this question in that one.  Hopefully, Admin will now see and respond.

Apparently assigning category Policy and Style doesn't accomplish that. Both questions are posted to that category.

I agree that this is the better order - research boxes above project boxes - as this order gives higher importance to communication of research discrepancies, missing data, and other problems, as well as to work flow and the status of various contributors' research.

Pages that reverse the order, placing project boxes above research boxes, are the pages that we should change.

Is this an issue that requires an official proposal and discussion before a change is made?

Tommy - in whose view is that the correct order?  According to the recent questions, there are different pages that give different order "recommendations", and that is why clarity is being requested.

(Most seem in favour of the order you post, research boxes above Project boxes, but all the help files need to agree on that.  Or on the other, less favoured order.)

@Melanie ... The biography page is the page which displays the "proper" order. If other pages are out of sync with the biography page, then they need to be corrected/updated.

I just 'compared' the changes made to both Biographies and Research Notes Help Pages.

Those 2 pages have been out of sync since 2017. At the end of Dec 2017, these sections look the same as they do now, which is in conflict.

Biographies page has Proper Order section, as Tommy posted above.

Research Note Help page has the following

To use one of the following simply enter a tag such as {{Estimated Date}} in the text section of the profile.

Ideally, it should be placed:

• Below any Categories and Project Boxes.
• Above the ==Biography== headline.
• On its own line with no extra hard returns or lines.
