Are you participating in the 2024 16 For 16 Mission?

To help celebrate WikiTree's 16th Anniversary in 2024, we are kicking off a year-long event: 16 For 16! (See Here for the previous years missions.)

Go here to find a list of "missions" participants can choose to complete. The goal is to complete 16 of the missions over the course of the year. Participants who reach that milestone will receive a "16 For 16" sticker they can add to their profile to show off their accomplishment.

Bonus: For participants wanting to go beyond 16, there are also milestone stickers for 32 For 16, 48 For 16 and 64 For 16, for completing 32, 48 and 64 missions respectively.

To accept this mission of missions, first reply here with an answer. Something as simple as "I'm going to participate!" works fine.

Then, choose missions from the list that you want to complete and work on them throughout the year. When you complete a mission, reply to your G2G answer here with a comment stating which one you've finished.

When you've completed 16 missions, post an answer in this separate G2G post to get the sticker for your profile. If you go on to complete 32, 48 or 64 missions, you can answer in the same post to get those stickers as well.

Darren Kellett created this excellent free-space page with a tracker you can copy and paste elsewhere to document your progress throughout the year.

So, will you join us in this 2024 mission?

Nelda I may be wrong but I was led to believe it can be those even of our own. The idea behind everything we do is to make the profiles better and that includes our own.
A hint, I look to see who has helped me with my profiles, and thank them for improving them. 16 adds up real quick.

@Monica You can use the link for your answer and save that as a bookmark. For example https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1678276/are-you-participating-in-the-2024-16-for-16-mission?show=1692186#a1692186 is for your answer with what looks like 4 more missions we need to record on the tracker as a comment.

@Nelda It is any Data Doctor Suggestion or any Unsourced profile or any Unconnected profile. Or any of the other missions can be done on your watchlist or other profiles.

The only exceptions are for the Improved profiles from your anniversaries list mission and the Improved these early profiles from your watchlist mission. For these missions the profiles had to have been on your watchlist when you did the profile edits. After that you could remove them from your watchlist if wanted.

As long as you are improving things on the Wikitree profiles that is the main goal. It does not matter if they are your managed profiles or someone else's or Orphaned profiles.

Thanks for the responses, Alice and Darren!
nelda you are very welcome. Glad to help.

There is now new mission levels for the Profiles related missions.

Those that had score marks at 16, 32, 64 are now 16, 32, 48, 64

Those that had score marks at 8, 16, 32 are now 8, 16, 24, 32 .

There is also another Sticker level so now there are stickers for 16 for 16, 32 for 16, 48 for 16, 64 for 16 .

If people had already completed a mission set to the 64 part I have added in the new mission totals. If you have past 48 but not 64 in a mission please let me know so it can be tracked.

Darren that is very much appreciated.
Thank you Darren, I'm glad you considered my suggestion!
I am going to participate in 2024.

by Vicki Blanco Borchers G2G6 Mach 6 (68.1k points)
Glad to have you aboard Vicki. I will check with the other people running this challenge and see what they say about the 48 mission level.
...'cause there should be goals for

16x1

16x2=32

16x3=48, right?
There is now a 48 mission level.

Glad to have you for this mission Dawn.

I've never participated in one of these before and am a little confused. We're supposed to do 16 missions over the year; I get that part. The confusion is about what comprises one mission. The way I'm reading it is that if, for example, I want to work on cemeteries, each of these is a separate mission:

  • Upload 16 headstone photos.
  • Add 16 people to a cemetery category.
  • Connect 8 profiles from a cemetery category.
  • Create a One Place Study for a cemetery.
Which would complete four missions. Is that correct?
Yes it would complete four missions. Some of the missions can be cumulative as well so if you ended up uploading 64 headstone pictures you could claim for the 16 headstones, 32 headstones and 64 headstones missions.
Thank you for the explanation! :)
Completed Mission #1: Add 16 profiles to a cemetery category.

Added the following to the category for Head of Tennessee Baptist Church Cemetery, Dillard, GA: Hopper-202; Gillespie-8733; Hopper-1799; Hopper-1794; Hopper-5332; Ritchie-116; Hopper-1796; Dickerson-1071; Keener-394; Blalock-791; Philyaw-87; Carter-5484; Brown-4141; Carter-12455; Sames-23; Carter-12480.

Wasn't sure if/how I needed to list/keep track.

I am in!

I have to remember to track it though. I should have had my 45 badge but forgot to log in a bunch of things. I won't do that again.
by Lisa Murphy G2G6 Pilot (341k points)
Glad to have you doing the 16 for 16 missions Lisa. Yeah it does help to track what was done but everything you did in 2023 was appreciated.
* Add a new or additional photo of yourself to your profile.

* Add 64 profiles to a cemetery category

I’d like to do it. Hopefully, it won’t take me until November to finish, like last year’s challenge.
by Katrina Lawson G2G6 Mach 4 (49.1k points)
Thank Katrina. There is a range of missions so hopefully you find some that you can do more quickly. However whatever you do get done will be greatly appreciated.

I'm still working to finish my second set of 15 for this year (Ellen's 15 for 15 Mission Tracker) before the calendar flips over to 2024, but I will participate again next year.

by Ellen Smith G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)
Thank you Ellen for wanting to participate again in 2024.

For my quick look you need to just get another 4 missions completed to get the 30 for 15 sticker awarded.
Yes, I "only" need four more, but as a Project Leader I often  spend most of my time on other members' priorities rather than my own. And my definition of "improving" a profile often ends up meaning adding eight more sources and several paragraphs of text.
Every improvement is appreciated and your improvements really make a difference in the quality of the profiles.
Much to my surprise, I squeaked through with 30 for 15 in 2023. My most important accomplishment was improving 45 early profiles from my watchlist. The oldest profile on my watchlist now has a date in May 2015, which is a substantial improvement over what I had before. Many of the early profiles (some that I had uploaded via Gedcoms and some that were bestowed upon me by other members unloading their own watchlists) were unsourced or nearly so, and I tried to do a thorough job of documenting them, rather than leaving them for the next time I happen to visit them (maybe 10 years from now?).

Count me in!! Seems like a good way to improve my skills and my understanding of all parts of Wikitree :)
by Jaqueline De Angelis G2G6 (6.6k points)
Thanks Jaqueline for volunteering to do this mission. There is a good variety of mission and it was intended to introduce new areas of what Wikitree has to offer.

Feel free to ask for help as there is a great bunch of people here who can answer your questions if you have any.
I don't know if this is the correct post, but I've finished my first mission: attached birth/marriage/death record to 16 profiles!
If this is how you want to record your completed missions that is okay. That 16 birth/marriage/death records is a good first mission to do.

There is a separate post linked in my original post where you post your 16 completed missions.
That post is for receiving the sticker once I've done all the 16 missions, correct? Or can I use that to record missions too?
Yes that post is for receiving the sticker. Record the Missions here or you could create a free space page to track it or any other method you prefer.

I got distracted last year so it took me all year to finish but it was fun!!

I’m up for participating again.
by Donna Lancaster G2G6 Mach 8 (86.6k points)
Glad to have you for the 2024 mission Donna.

Donna you need to create your own free space page and not use the template at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:16_for_16_Mission_Tracker .

Please create your own tracker Free space page and remove the two tracked profiles from the template. It is designed for everyone doing the mission to copy and not for people to record on the template.

Terribly sorry. Thought  I finished my FSP with the template. Used the wrong copy.

However, I can no longer edit out my items. I’d appreciate any help.

Hello Donna

As I needed to provide a copy for someone having trouble creating their version of the tracking sheet I had to remove your edits. The following were your edits for the Cemetery category mission.

# Blaylock-874

# Ballard-8919

# Davis-64236

# Evans-41904

# Foster-31449

# Gann-1444

# Gann-1446

# Green-47976

# Griffith-11666

# Guess-818

# Gullick-132

# Harbor-81

# Harbor-93

# Harbor-100

# Harbour-484

# Harbour-707

Thank you. Very kind of you. Again, I apologize for the screw-up.

I'm in!  I found I learned a few things doing the 15 for 15 mission!
by Kathy Evans G2G6 Mach 5 (56.6k points)
Always good to hear people have learned something doing the 15 for 15 Mission.

Look forward to see if you learn something new with this years missions Kathy

I'm halfway there!  I do have a question on this mission:  I connected 8, 16 or 32 profiles from a cemetery category:

Where do I find these unconnected profiles?

Thanks!

Missions completed:

I resolved these 16, 32 or 64 profiles in the Needs GEDCOM Cleanup Category:

I added 16, 32 or 64 profiles to a cemetery category:

I improved these 16, 32 or 64 early profiles from my Watchlist:

I resolved these 16, 32 or 64 profiles in the Needs Biography Category or subcategories:

I resolved these 16, 32 or 64 profiles in the Needs Birth Record / Needs Marriage Record or Needs Death Record Category or subcategories:

I dated these 16, 32 or 64 undated profiles from suggestions 131-134:  NO DATES

I added at least one source to these 16, 32 or 64 profiles from the Unsourced Profiles Category or subcategories:

I solved these 16, 32 or 64 Unknowns from my Watchlist or the tree at large:

8 Missions recorded on 21 Feb (NZ Time.

To find Unconnected cemetery profiles there is an easy way and a harder way.

The easy way is using the WBE category options. Then on a category there will be three buttons for Unconnected, Orphaned or Missing Parent. Clicking on the Unconnected button will filter the category for any unconnected profiles in that category.

The harder ways are searching the unconnected lists for profiles that have a cemetery category on them or by manually checking the profiles in the category to see which ones are unconnected.
Thank you!  I just figured out the easy way.  I appreciate your help.
