DNA haplogroup format too restrictive

I've just received my yDNA hapiogroup from Nebula Genomics / YFull, a partnership that do a full DNA sequence, rather than just focused on a ancestry. The hapiogroup they give is of the format I-Y<six digits> THis is rejected by the WikiTree DNA test form as it only accepts a letter and 5 digits.

Does anyone have any idea how to adapt this, or whether WikiTree needs an upgrade in this department?

Are you sure you were entering it into the correct field? That limit exists for GEDMatch IDs, but it should be fine for the Y-haplogroup field.

Which test type did you select?

'Other yDNA'

for which I get the error: 'The MitoYDNA ID should be one letter followed by 5 digits.'

The "MitoYDNA ID" is if you uploaded your data to the site mitoydna.org.

You want to enter the haplogroup in the field titled "Y-chromosome haplogroup".

It's also worthwhile to search for the YFull-assigned SNP at the FTDNA haplotree: https://www.familytreedna.com/public/y-dna-haplotree/A.

YFull has a tendency to use SNP names for the deeper branches in the tree that have that "Y" prefix, which indicates that the name came from YFull. Most yDNA test-takers will be using the nomenclature at the FTDNA tree, and if not your current "terminal" SNP, possibly the next higher will be cataloged at FTDNA, probably not as defining branch but among the synonymous and associated SNPs for a branch. It's a good idea--if you can locate the corresponding FTDNA branch--to note that haplogroup in the comment area for your WikiTree test. People may not know how they might correlate to the YFull designation otherwise.

At FTDNA, on the left of the display click on the pulldown that reads "View by Countries" and change that to "View by Variants."

Then use the "Search by Variant" field to look for the YFull SNPs; note in that field you don't precede the SNP designation with the basal haplogroup letter. If your "terminal" haplogroup is something like R-Y123456 just drop the "R-" part.

If the SNP is found on the FTDNA haplotree, you'll get a result that reads something like "1 Results on R." You'd then need to click on the tab for the "R" haplogroup and scroll down to find the correct branch. It will be highlighted by a gray bar. If there are more than 15 or so synonymous/associated SNPs for that branch, click on the number to the right (e.g., "+39") to view all of them and find the YFull designation there.

Is there anyway I can upload my Nebula DNA test results and /or the Yfull Y and mitochondrial reports derived from my Nebula test to my profile on this site. I have already uploaded my 23andme (B3 chip) and ancestry.com autosomal test results

Heya, Bill. Since WikiTree doesn't accept or store any kind of raw DNA test data, the answer is a no about actual uploading. But the good news is that there is an easy way to make note of your Nebula/YFull results.

Starting the same way you did when entering your 23andMe test information, from the top-of-page main menu go to Add > DNA Test Information.

You'll see a heading that reads, "Current Test List." To the far right of that is a link titled, "Add New Test" (well, actually, "add new test").

Click that and you'll get the basic test info entry screen. From the pull-down menu that says, "Click here to select DNA test," you'll find what amount to catch-all options for: "Other auDNA," Other mtDNA," and "Other yDNA." These can be used as needed to enter test information for anything relevant that doesn't have a pre-formatted option like "23andMe" or "AncestryDNA."

Just be sure to click "Add Test" once you've finished.

For analytic services like YFull, I recommend using the "Optional space for additional information" to indicate particulars about the original test (e.g., "Analysis by YFull on data submitted from 30X whole genome sequencing performed by Nebula Genomics."). That helps make it clear the who/what/how of the test.
