I have a tree on WIKI but I keep getting told that my file is too large.  Ive split my tree on rootsmagic and saved a GEDCOM.  Should I Leave the too large file there and import the smaller file?

Hello Billy and welcome to Wikitree.

The problem you are likely encountering is due to your newness on this site. There is a limit on the first Gedcom you can import into the site which is about 25-50 people(I am not sure the exact limit).

This is to help you get used to how the site works.

Another issue may be how many people are actually in your Gedcom.

Look at the pages at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:GEDCOMs which may help you learn how wikitree handles Gedcoms and what needs to be done afterwards.

What I suggest is bring your tree here but in small easily manageable chunks so you don't get overwhelmed.

You will also get other people who will may make changes on the profiles you create. That is because We collaborate. When we share ancestors we work together on the same ancestor profiles

Hi Billy, Welcome to the one world family tree.

I think if you receive a notice that your file is too big, it probably hasn't been imported yet.  You can delete your old file and start again with a much smaller gedcom.  I suggest starting with about 20 individuals to see if you like the import process first, then add more gedcoms as time allows.

In adding your family twig to the branches of the WikiTree, you will need to make sure your record is for a new individual that is not already on the WikiTree. You will have to check each and every possible duplicate on your file and skip the records that already exist on the WikiTree.   This Help page may assist you:  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:GEDCOM#Importing_a_GEDCOM

I would go ahead and delete the too large file (especially since it looks like you uploaded it twice), and then start the process again by uploading your smaller file.
