I saw the comment about doing what needs to be done in the old year. It is actually too late to buy/sell on the stock market. It is closed for the weekend and won't open until the 2nd of January. I was going to do it and remembered at the last minute yesterday. I did get something in. I usually do my taxes, or an estimate to see if there is anything I should be doing, but didn't get around to it.

I also got my cards done. I am sending less but like to send to everyone who sends to me and maybe a few more.  I send them even if it is after Christmas. I write notes so it takes longer, only a few write notes anymore.

It is snowing this morning. Hopefully not too much. My husband broke his arm so the shoveling is down to me.

Need to decide whether to go to the New Years Dances without my husband, probably not.

Sorry to hear about your husband's broken arm, Sue. Hope he mends quickly.
Hi Sue, Hope your husbands arm is healing up and he is back to shoveling snow soon! No snow here, just cold and foggy!
Ditto to what everyone said. Hello everyone to the Happy New Year WikiTree weekend chat.
Sue so sorry to hear about your husband.  Shoveling snow can be dangerous if you are not used to it.  With your husband out of commission are there any young people in your area looking to make a little money?

When my husband was sick and we had snow I paid some of the neighborhood teens to do the walk and driveway.  They did a better job than I would have and I did not have to worry about falling and also getting hurt!

Great card!  Happy New Years to everyone!  Stay safe and warm!  Eat what you want today, go on a diet tomorrow!  That was my Grandmother's advice when I was growing up.  Sounds good to me now that I am a grandmother!

Greetings from Brightlingsea, Essex, England

Well that was Christmas and we had a very pleasant time at home. It was me being the cook for Christmas lunch and that went well. Roast Turkey followed Christmas pudding. .......

Spent the past few days trying to catch up on paperwork, sorting photos, trying to do some work on Wikitree. As you may have gathered I am very interested in my Brightlingsea connections.and have done some work on those - Jefferies family connections to the Orman family has been an activity this week.I enjoy the "finding out things" about local families. Have been trying to clear up paperwork, as no doubt there will be more on the way.                                                                                                               New Year will see me back dancing again  and back to my Boxing fitness  class.                                                                                                Of course still alot to do on Wikitree, want to go through the profiles I manage and see what I can add, either something I missed or new information coming available. That is as well as the Brightlingsea Connections and i need to look at the Burrow family again. Maybe I should focus more in 2018........

May I wish everyone a Happy New Year. and will look to add to Weekend Chat in 2018

Hello everyone to the Happy New Year WikiTree weekend chat.

Chris if memory serves me, one of my relatives who was wounded in WWI was sent to a hospital in Brightlingsea.  Does that sound right to you?  http://www.scarletfinders.co.uk/178.html  see Essex 4th entry.

I found this  http://www.essexrecordofficeblog.co.uk/tag/brightlingsea/

DICKIN, Mr. Edward Percival (part of 1916-1917. Captain R.A.M.C.)

http://www.redcross.org.uk/About-us/Who-we-are/History-and-origin/First-World-War/Card?hosp=military+colchester&page=4&id=60971

from https://greatwarhomehospitals.wordpress.com/home/colchester-general-military-hospital-sobraon-barracks/ has info on several people from your town and along journal entry made by one of the Australian forces trained there.

Thank you, Chris, have a great New Year in 2018.
Interesting information. Thank you  Laura.. Sounds right about your relative being sent to Brightlingsea.

Interesting your reference to Dr Dickin who was involved in many activities in the town in addition to his medical duties. Author of "The history of Brightlingsea" - Playwright & Producer, held numerous roles in the community.

Will have to look out for Hurst Villa on Hurst Green. I have an idea which house it is .....

regards Chris

Temps dropped to -27 degrees (Celcius) overnight last night - and there has been a cold weather alert over Southern Ontario for both yesterday (30 Dec) and today (31 Dec).

Some cities and towns around Canada are CANCELLING their planned fireworks displays for tonight since they cannot have people being outside in freezing cold temperatures.

As an aside, I have started up a new challenge if anyone wants to join in for the year of 2018. This is the 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks Challenge. Details as follows.

Happy New Year to all Wikitreers!!

Thank you, Robynne! Have a great and safe New Year. I live in Texas and it is supposed to be 17 degrees Fahrenheit (-8.8 Celsius) here tonight. Has been a light drizzle today that has been freezing and could see some light snow or freezing rain.

Well my 3 day weekend was going pretty good. Finished up what  I could of the location clean up on a Dyess database before starting on a database compare in RootsMagic. The eventually planning to have a master Dyess database.  Kept closing it out by accident so taking longer than planned.

Then Sun morning got my partner in wine to come out to see my parents new house and had pancakes with mimosas.

Today I decided to wash some dishes and the glass I used last night broke off and sliced my index finger and cut two other fingers.. Spend a couple hours at the ER with my dad. Now I"m trying to get back to what I had planned for today to finish it out better. LOL

Hope everyone else had a better start to your 2018 year!
by Charlotte Shockey G2G6 Pilot (986k points)

Sorry about your start of the New Year and your cut fingers hope they heal quickly! We had a good New year since we have hardly been out of the house today as it was 16% Fahrenheit this morning and has warmed to a balmy 29%. Had our traditional blackeye peas and homemade cornbread for lunch with a glass of red wine. No broken glasses!!

Glad you didn't have any broken glasses David! :) I knew I should have gone with my cut to do genealogy instead of housework. LOL
