Seth was born most likely on 13 MARCH 1595. Seth Ward ... He passed away before 1682.[1]
The best evidence of Seth Ward of Varina Parish's origin comes from the will of Seth Warde of Abington naming his grandsons Seth, born in 1595, and John, 1597. The first firm date is a 1634 patent. Since a three year residency was required he arrived in Virginia by at least 1631.
The earliest recorded mention of Seth Ward is as follows : By order of Court 11 Feby. 1632 that all such planters or per sons whatsoever who shall have no land due unto them by ad venture or otherwise should have certain quantity granted unto them by lease for 21 years , therefore under this provision , to Seath Ward , of Varina , in the upper parts , planter , three score acres of land in the upper parts in corporation of Henrico ; ad joining Daniel Sherley , Powhatan's Three , Three mile swamp . Dated 30 May 1634.[2]
On November ( 9br ) 12th , 1643 a patent for 150 acres of land was issued to Seth Ward as follows : Seth Ward 350 acres Hen rico Co. , bounded N. N. W. by side of twoe myle creek : S. S. W. " over against Varina " : E. S. E. upon three myle swamp taking in said swamp extending in breadth towards the foure mile creek , bounded at the end by a running brook called the roundabout : due as followeth 150 acres by virtue of a former patent dated 13 February 1635 and 50 acres by purchase from John Baker * of a patent dated last of May 1636 , & 150 acres more by and for transportation of 3 persons viz : Jno . Wilkeson , Robt . Fleete , Jno . Miller , into the colony . Dated gber 12th , 1643.[3]
The above excerpts from the article The Ward Family in William & Mary Quarterly.[4]
Because Seth Ward and John Ward are in Varina Parish at the same time, it is speculated they are brothers. As brothers, it has been speculated they were sons of John and grandsons of Seth below.
Seth might be the grandson of Seth Ward, who died in Abbington, Cambridgeshire, England in 1598. He left a will dated February 14th, 1598 and proved June 20th 1598. Named in his will were his wife, Annis/Anne also sons: John, Enos and Thomas; daughters Marie Warde and Anne Jacob; Grandchildren: John and Seth Warde, sons of John, and Anne Ward daughter of John, and grandchildren Martha, Alice and Marie. Seth also mentioned his brother Robert Ward, and Sister Wilsonne.
Seth Ward immigrant to Varina Parish, Virginia, was born around 1695 in England.
Some sources list him as married to Katherine Smith: Seth Ward married Katherine Smith in Virginia.[5]
It is supposed he died in Varina Parish, Henrico, Virginia, before 1677, which is the date that Varina records exist. Other dates listed on merged profiles include 1682 and September 18, 1711. Death date of 1711 seems off and probably belongs to still another Seth Ward.
Seth had a son Richard. The son Richard died in 1682 leaving a wife, four children and a will.

Then Seath Ward was given 60 acres by lease for 21 years on 30th of May 1634 in Verinas, VA. Both were listed as Ancient Planters. Then 3 years later, on 14 July 1637 also in Verinas, Henrico County, VA, Richard Ward sponsored Sarah Bremen and Alice Edloe for 100 acres. I suspect these three men are brothers not father and son. I also suspect some digging into these women’s names may solve a bride line issue or two in Henrico, VA.

"The subsequent history of Seth Ward is not known: it is not known whom he married, nor is the date of his death known other than that it took place between 1650 (the date of his last patent, as above,) and 1677 when the records, as at present preserved in Henrico, begin. "
