Pierre Vincent was born about 1631, location unknown at this time. His parents are unproven. These parents were on the profile: Michel Vincent and Jeanne Unknown, but have been removed since there is no documented proof of the parents of Pierre.
He married Anne Gaudet, daughter of Denis Gaudet and Martine Gauthier, around 1663 in Port-Royal, according to the depositions of their descendants at Belle-Isle-en-Mer.[1] Together they had 6 known children between around 1664 and 1674:
  1. Huguette Vincent
  2. Thomas Vincent
  3. Michel Vincent
  4. Magdeleine Vincent
  5. Pierre Vincent
  6. Clement Vincent
In 1671 Pierre, a ploughman age 40, and Anne age 27, were enumerated in the first Acadian census in Port-Royal. [2] They owned 18 head of cattle, 9 sheep and 16 arpents of land. There were 3 boys and 1 girl in the household.
Anne died before 1678, since Pierre was listed without a wife in the 1678 census, but with four boys and two girls: Thomas Michel, Pierre, Unnamed, Huguette and unnamed. He owned 15 head of cattle, and 8 "acres" of land.[3]
He died before 1687 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France [1]
Vincent was the first ancestor of this family known in America.[1]
Father Léopold Lanctôt, OMI, says in a book whose title is FAMILIES ACADIENNES (Volume II), the following:[4]
"Pierre Vincent, was born in France in 1631. He came to Canada in 1654, with Emmanuel Le Borgne, Sieur du Coudray, merchant of La Rochelle, just supply the colony, where he has business interests. The Châteaufort, armed in war, made available by Le Borgne by his associate, the Duke of Vendome, from La Rochelle 25 March 1654. It carries on board some new settlers, and Pierre Vincent Michel Richard, laborers, and Pierre Thibodeau, miller. It is also loaded with supplies, weapons and ammunition, whose value amounts to 75,000 pounds ($ 15,000). the ship of 300 tons arrived in Port-Royal in mid-May 1654. "
"A few days after his arrival, Pierre Vincent attends the capture of Port Royal by Sedgwick ..........."
"...... Emmanuel Le Borgne of Belleisle, lord of Port Royal ......"
"...... The Châteaufort, captained by Guilbeau ......."
"Two months after the arrival of Peter" (Thibodeau) "in Acadia, July 31, 1654, although one is right in peacetime, a British fleet commanded by Major Robert Sedgwick, appeared before Port Royal . it is composed of three warships and a ketch (sailboat with two masts), carrying 500 soldiers of fort Sedgwick arrives the Saint John river, which he took over and where he made prisoner Charles Saint-Étienne de La Tour, governor of Acadia. After two weeks of stubborn resistance, despite its small garrison of 120 men, Germain Doucet, said La Verdure, commander of Port Royal, to capitulate. the French garrison and its commander . and Le Borgne, are returned to France aboard Châteauford After the departure of the French garrison, the English also leave Port Royal, leaving no garrison: people govern themselves through a Council chaired by a trustee, Guillaume Trahan. Pierre Vincent: is also known as Pierre Clement Vincent. His Birth date is 28 June, 1630. (See Find a Grave Index: URL: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/156815791/pierre-vincent See also: Drouin Institute - The Connoly File - he is listed as either: Vincent, Pierre or Vincent, Pierre dit Clement. Some records have him listed as Clement. Pierre Clement Vincent was born 28 June, 1630 Death: (Find a Grave) 1686 Port Royal, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada. (Correct place of death would be Port Royal, Acadia. Canada was not a Country, nor was Nova Scotia a Province in 1686.)

Birth Place: Saint-Gregoire, Department d'Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne, France. (That is probably where the records are kept.) Ancestry.ca has him listed as birth: 1631 - at Angers, Maine, France.

Parents of Pierre Clement Vincent: Father: Rene Vincent (sometimes listed as Michel or Michel Rene) Mother: Jeanne (unknown) See: Geni.com for profile of Rene Vincent See also Ancestry.ca

See: FamilySearch.com Michel Rene Vincent 1592-1631 Record: QNS9-JZZ Marriage 1630, France

Wife: Jeanne Plansonneau 1615-1631 Record: QNS9-KMN

Parents of Michel Rene Vincent: Father: Jehan Baptiste Vincent 1548-1592 Record: QNS9-KMJ Marriage abt 1579 Ligny-En-Barrois, Meuse, France

Mother: Catherine Maulgras 1560-1636 Record: QNS9-KMV (References include two from Myheritage.com)

Note: The maiden name of Jeanne - wife of Michel Rene Vincent & mother of Pierre Clement Vincent needs to be confirmed by a reliable original source, because there is a different name listed on other sources. Most other sources that I have found have her listed as "Inconnue = Unknown).

Hi, Therese, thank you for posting the information in this comment. Find A Grave is not considered a reliable source, and I see no actual sources given in the record you attached (thank you for the link). You mention the birth place so I wonder if you have an original record from this that would give his parents? Since his parents have been previously unknown and wrong parents were attached, we really need to have a good record (not a family tree) to add them. Thank you for your help in this. I did find a baptism for a Pierre Vincent with the parents mentioned above, in 1628. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F99Y-88K

Also another with the June 28, 1630 birthdate https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QP94-7PKG (yet different parents).

There is no linkage of either of these Pierre Vincents to this one. This one was married to Anne Gaudet but there is no marriage record to say who his parents were. Stephen White has no parents assigned and no corrections for this family.

Why my first name is Vincent.

Pierre Vincent (1631-1682) was born in central France, Mareuil-sur-Arnon France near Châteauroux. He settled at Acadie. In the 1671 census, he was 40 years old. His wife Anne Gaudet (1644-?) was born at Port Royal. Her parents, Denis and Martine (Gautier) came from Martaize, Loudon, La Vienne, Poitou, France. At a later time, the family moved to Pigiguit (Windsor) Pierre and Anne were married at Pigiguit in 1660. They had 4 children: Huguette (1664-?), Thomas (1665-?), Michel (1668-?) and Pierre2 (1669-?) In 1671 the family moved back to Port Royal where Clement (1669-?) was born. Pierre2 married Jeanne Trahan in 1690 in Port Royal. The Trahans came from paroisses de St. Germaine de Bourgeuil, Indre et Loire, France. Pierre3 married Marie Granger (1694-?) in 1714 Pierre4 married while in Acadie and again in exile during Le Grand Dérangement (1755-1764) Two Vincent men were deported from Grand Pre in 1755: Antoine and Joseph1 were among the first expelled group and were sent to New England. Joseph1 (1728-?) and his second wife, Marie Benoit were in Boston in 1763 when their three children were born. Joseph1 petitioned for a return to Canada in 1766 for 7 members of the Vincent family. They moved to Yamachiche near Trois Rivieres. Joseph2 married Marie Trahan (Landry) in 1781 at St. Anne's parish, Yamachiche. Charles1 (Joseph2, Joseph1, Pierre3, Pierre3, Pierre2, Pierre1) was born January 7 in 1810 and baptized in the family parish, St. Anne's. Joseph3 Vincent (1810-1878) settled as a farmer in Hillier Township, Prince Edward County and married Sarah Wilder (182?-1851) in 1851. Ten years prior, he served in the Prince Edward Militia under Colonel James Wilkins. Joseph and Sarah had 3 children, among them are my maternal great-great grandmother, Mary Elizabeth (1842-1936) Joseph3 then married Mary Kirse from Vellana Bay, County Clare, Ireland. Mary Elizabeth Vincent married James McCaffrey in 1861 at Wellington, Ontario and moved to Simcoe County Ontario. They had 12 children. My great-grandmother, Mary Emma (Minnie) Vincent was among them. She married Tom Smith in 1898 and passed away in 1943, the year my mother, Alice Smith-Dumond, named me Vincent in honour of my Acadian heritage. Vincent Dumond, Toronto Ontario.

Hi Vincent, how cool is that! I'll also review the information you provided here to see what we might need to add to profiles on WikiTree.

Vincent-4617 and Vincent-392 appear to represent the same person because: 30 years difference in date of birth. However, same spouse who was added to this profile the same day it was created. Also a duplicate. No other couple with these names found in documentation by Stephen White DGFA p. 1575 or Karen Theriot Reader. (Child Agnès Vincent, mentioned in bio of Vincent-4617 was removed and connected to right parents Michel Vincent and Marie Josèphe Richard DGFA p. 1577)

Should these parents be disconnected? This profile is highly viewed by people outside of WikiTree and there is an effort to be sure we have the best information possible. Please give your opinion. Thanks

Parents removed. There is no documented proof of the parents of Pierre at this time. Stephen White DGFA p. 1575, Karen Theriot Reader, Nos Origines and other websites do not mention parents for him.

And her father is Florentin Vincent. He was born in Dippe, France in 1595. The Vincent family tree is handwritten and I'm a Vincent myself so I'm sure it's correct.

Thank you for sharing this information. Do you mean that Florentin is Pierre’s father? Genealogist Stephen White and other respected researchers have not been able to identify his parents due to absence of records or censuses which is all too frequent in the 1500s and 1600s. Family trees are rich in information but if there aren’t any sources we need to be careful.

In my great grandfathers family tree book it says the mother is Jeanne Bouvére Vincent. No clue of the father

Kylie, Pierre is my grandfather many times removed and I've gathered a great deal of info on the Vincent line. Is there any way that I could review (online or otherwise) the posting in your grandfather's tree book? I'm also willing to share info with you should you wish.
