Benjamin Ackley was born about 1707[1][2]probably at East Haddam,[1][2] Middlesex, Connecticut. He was the son of John Ackley of Hartford and his wife Rebecca Spencer of Haddam.
On December 7, 1727 Benjamin received the gift of a deed from his father, John Ackley. The deed gave part of the home lot with the house, barn and orchards to Benjamin, reserving life use to John.[1]Also deeded to Benjamin was twenty-four acres of his father's home lot.[2] John mentions no wife, so probably she had died prior to 1727. This would indicate that John expected to live with Benjamin for the rest of his life.[1][2]John says in the deed that the gift was given in consideration of "my love and tender respect which I do bare unto my son Benjamin Ackley."[2]
In September, 1736, Benjamin joined with his brothers and sisters in the distribution of their father's estate.[2]This distribution paper can be seen in full beginning on page 48 of the book, "Dawes-Gates Ancestral Lines," by Mary Dalton Ferris.
He was baptized as an adult and admitted into membership of the East Haddam Church on January 27, 1739.[1][2] Took the Oath of Allegiance
Marriage
About 1732 he married Experience Crippen.[1][2]She joined the East Haddam Church on October 7, 1739 and had her first three children baptized there three weeks later.[1][2]

Benjamin Ackley is my 6th great grandfather.
I'm wondering about the surname of the wife on this profile. The sources listed are Dawes Gates [1] and Ackley Bosworth [2]. Both of these sources name Benjamin Ackley's wife as "Experience _______."
I looked thoroughly in American Ancestors (NEHGS) and found no source for this marriage.
I'm wondering if the surname "Crippen" came in erroneously from an import?
For genealogical accuracy, we as a family need to consider changing the wife's name to "Experience _____" and leave notes about the surname "Crippen" so in the future if new knowledge is discovered they can be reattached.
Many of the sources are not primary and are subject to error. I especially question the last name of Experience (?) Ackley. I have seen no Connecticut records listing her. The Brainerd-Brainard Genealogy lists her name as unknown. The Connecticut Church records do not name her either.
There is an extra Benjamin (1758 - 1835) attached as child. His birth was in New York, so does not belong to this couple. Ackley-843 should be disconnected
