James Moore Adams was born in 1849 in Illinois, the oldest son of William Adams and Mary Getty. He married Rachel McKeown on 30 Sep 1880 in her home state of Iowa. Together with his brother, John, they moved west to Nebraska in Covered wagon. The families lived in dugouts there until housed could be build. James was an elder in the Reformed Presbyterian Church and the first service of the Nuckolls, Nebraska church was held in his house. While in Nebraska he and Rachel had nine children. In 1906 James and Rachel moved to Sterling Kansas, where James was again an elder in the Reformed Presbyterian Church at Sterling. In 1911 the sold their land to Sterling Collage and probably retired from farming, moving to a small house down the street. James passed away in 1932, at the age of 83, of a disease resulting from "hardening of the arteries".
