Rachel McKeown was born on 20 Feb 1853 in Iowa to Henry McKeown and Rebecca Paxton. She married James Moore Adams on 30 Sep 1880 in her home state of Iowa. Together with James's brother, John, they moved west to Nebraska in Covered wagons. The families lived in dugouts there until housed could be build. James was an elder in the Reformed Presbyterian Church and the first service of the Nuckolls, Nebraska church was held in his house. While in Nebraska he and Rachel had nine children. In the 1900s James and Rachel moved to Sterling Kansas, where James was again an elder in the Reformed Presbyterian Church at Sterling. Rachel died on 12 Jun 1934 in Sterling.
