Gerard Alexander was born about 1738 in Fairfax County, Colony of Virginia, son of Gerard Alexander (about 1713–about 1761) and Mary Dent (about 1715–about 1793).

Gerard (18) and Jane Ashton (7) were married in 1757. Jane was born after 1749 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Henry Ashton and Jane (Alexander) Spooner. Their known children were:

Gerard passed away before 16 Apr 1800 in Berkeley County, Virginia, United States, aged about 61.

The 1746 birthdate belongs to a different Gerard, the son of John Alexander and Susanna Pearson. Marriage date is also wrong,
